Migration was never a choice; it was a reality that imposed itself upon me. Yet, with my deep love for freedom, this reality became an integral part of my artistic journey. This challenge, with all the responsibility it carries, pushed me to express myself more deeply through painting. When I think, I think on paper—between the brush, the scissors, the textile, and every material that holds color and memory, I find myself in a continuous dialogue with lines, hues, and recollections, trying to create balance between reality and imagination."
"My belief in the magic of art and its ability to understand and analyze reality compels me to seek beauty within the depths of ugliness. In every stroke, in every shade, I find an opportunity to express what words often fail to capture—a way to reconstruct what has been shattered or lost amid the complexity of the human experience."
"But migration is not just a journey toward new opportunities; it is also a constant confrontation with loss and separation, with the pain of exile, and with the grief of losing loved ones while being far away. How does a family in exile maintain its cohesion amidst all these challenges? How do we balance building a new life while dealing with the remnants of war, limited resources, nostalgia for our roots, and the isolation of living in a society that may not fully grasp our experiences and memories?"
"At the core of my art, I do not fear sharing my personal experiences through my work because every piece I create is a story I have lived—but it is not mine alone. Painting is not just a form of self-expression; it is an act of sharing, an attempt to break the solitude. I am not alone in these emotions, nor in this experience. What I go through as a woman, as a migrant, as a survivor, is a shared sentiment with many others around the world. Pain, loss, and exile are not exclusive to a single identity or place; wars do not exist only in Syria, and suffering takes many forms across different cultures and nations. Through my art, I seek to find that common thread that connects us all—a space for dialogue and connection that transcends borders and narrow identities.
